Bridgett Anderson Wright shares her experience as an Online DNP-FNP student below.

What was the biggest win during the program?

I started the program at the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic. Many things in our society changed, impacting my ability to make time for my studies. I worked extra weekends and had late nights after work due to the demand covid-19 placed on the healthcare system as whole. It was a challenge to work, take care of my family's needs and complete assignments on time. There were many days, my perseverance was tested. The biggest win was prayer and God's guidance through it all!

How did Baylor prepare you for your current role?

Baylor prepared me to take on the role as a nurse leader. I had some amazing instructors...tough, but amazing instructors who challenged me even when I was far from the desire of accepting that challenge. I learned to take the best available evidence, translate research into actual practice and most importantly how to improve health care outcomes through that research.

What makes Baylor nurses unique in the healthcare world?

As a Baylor nurse, I formed lasting relationships with fellow DNP students. Although our specialties were different, having the comradery with other students going through the program was helpful. Knowing we all faced challenges (especially during the start and height of covid-19), having others to share that challenging yet inspiring journey provided that extra motivation to keep going. The nurses Baylor produces is unlike any other... we are one of a kind!

What’s one piece of advice you’d give a potential DNP student?

The one piece of advice I'd give to a potential DNP student, is to always make time for SELF and FAMILY! Because your family will be your greatest supporter, but YOU will be your greatest cheerleader!

Was your degree worth your investment? Why?

Yes, my degree was worth my investment. It challenged me above and beyond anyway I could have challenged myself. It's an amazing feeling to see the Doctoral plaque hanging at work and the growth of my knowledge base from my journey through Baylor's DNP program. I am hopeful my hard work has paved the way for others who may consider pursuing a doctoral program. My test has now become my testimony.
