Excluding clinicals and residencies, coursework is 100% online.

How long does the Distance ABSN program take to complete?

The Distance ABSN program takes 45 weeks to complete--under 1 year.

How many start dates does the Distance ABSN program have per year?

Two, in January and September.

Do you require a pre-nursing test for Distance ABSN program candidates?

Yes, we require the HESI A2 and Math & English Composite tests. You must receive an 80 in both sections.

Do pre-requisite credits for the Distance ABSN program have to be completed at Baylor University?

No, but please connect with your enrollment advisor to confirm equivalency and ensure the credits transfer.

Can a prospective Distance ABSN student continue to work while completing the program?

No, ABSN students may not work while enrolled in the program due to the academic rigor of the program.

What specializations are available within the DNP program?

We have two DNP programs. One offers six distinct tracks including Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwifery, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The DNP-ENL helps students to develop executive knowledge and competencies to strategically lead change, transform care models to improve patient outcomes, and influence healthcare organizations and systems. How long will it take to complete the online DNP program?

Students typically complete the DNP program in the following timeframe. Please note that actual length to program completion will vary depending on the student's background and selected track.

Specialty Advanced Practice Tracks (DNP-FNP, DNP-NNP, DNP-PNP, DNP-NM, DNP-AGACNP, DNP-PMHNP)

  • BSN holders typically complete our DNP program in three (3) years and four (4) months, skipping the Master’s degree program entirely
  • MSN holders typically complete our DNP program in 18 to 24 months 
  • Students in our Pediatric Primary/Acute Care track typically complete the program in four (4) years 

Executive Nurse Leadership Track (DNP-ENL)

  • DNP-ENL students typically complete the program in two (2) years
Can I work while in the DNP program?

Baylor University's Louise Herrington School of Nursing understands the needs and challenges of busy RNs. Our online coursework allows you to balance your career with your other commitments.

How many start dates does the online DNP program have per year?

All DNP specialty advanced practice tracks have 3 starts a year with the exception of Nurse-Midwifery and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner which have 2 starts per year.
