My name is Kelly Rigby. I live in Virginia, and I am in the BSN to DNP Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program here at Baylor University.
When you choose to go to Baylor, you're not just choosing to go to a school that's going to sit you down in front of a computer, throw a whole bunch of content in your face and hope that you can pass your boards one day. When you choose to go to Baylor, you're choosing to truly engage with the content, to collaborate with your peers and your professors, to share your personal stories and professional experiences, and learn how to improve your bedside practice not only now, but in the future.
Your professors at Baylor aren't just here to help you survive as an advanced practice clinician, but to truly thrive in our complex and ever-changing health care environment. When you're here and taking these courses, you will not only connect with your professors, but your peers and those within your cohort. In fact, I actually have weekly study sessions and group texts with a lot of people within the program. It's so genuine and authentic and something that I never expected to receive through my education. But let me tell you, it is truly invaluable to know that there are others in this journey with me. Not only are there people who are walking the same path but are professors who have walked the same path before us and know exactly what we need in order to excel through this journey.
Another very unique aspect to Baylor is the fact that you are assigned a student success advisor from your first day in the program. You're probably wondering what that means. Your student success advisor will be in contact with you several times throughout the semester just to check in and see how things are going. If you have any questions, need any assistance, or just need someone to vent to or even someone to celebrate your successes with. There they are and they're happy to do it. My student success advisor has become like a friend to me. I look forward to my conversations with her. She always celebrates with me and we talk about things that are important to me in the moment.
I do not regret my decision to go to Baylor. If I were to do it all again today, I would make the exact same choice that I did. I am today tomorrow yesterday and forever proud to be a Baylor Bear. Sic ‘em.
