Work and Education:
Dr. Sherry Boone has taught at the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing since Fall 2023. She began her career in education by teaching as adjunct clinical faculty at Virginia Western Community College from 2009-2020. In 2019, she began her full-time career as an assistant professor of nursing at Radford University where she later served as the prelicensure traditional BSN coordinator. Dr. Boone has served as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) since 2012. She continues to practice with Surgical Critical Care at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia.
Articles and Presentations:
Outside the classroom, Dr. Boone contributes to medical and nursing knowledge. She has published and presented on the post-discharge mortality of geriatric trauma patient undergoing tracheostomy and gastrostomy placement. She was a contributor to the 7th edition of the Fundamental critical care support published by the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Boone recently conducted research on the experiences of nursing faculty undergoing an academic merger and she was a co-researcher investigating moral distress and moral injury during the Covid 19 pandemic.
Community:
Finally, Dr. Boone is involved in her local community. She is a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. She previously served as volunteer vaccination nursing and as the camp nurse for her local muscular dystrophy association. She enjoys spending time with her family including her husband, three children, two dogs and two bunnies.
