Work and Education:
Dr. Neathery has taught nursing at the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing for over 20 years. Specializing in psychiatric mental health nursing, she teaches students in lecture, lab, and clinical settings. Her lectures are informed by many years of professional experience practicing psychiatric nursing and researching spiritual care and mental health recovery.
Committees:
Dr. Neathery has chaired and served on many Nursing School Committees. These include the Faculty Affairs Committee, Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, Baylor University Personnel Benefits Committee, Committee on Committees, and Academic Policies Committee. She has served on the Work Group for the Development of the Faculty Clinical Track, and is a faculty sponsor for Nurses Christian Fellowship, a New Faculty Mentor, and class advisor. She is a member of American Psychiatric Nurses Association and contributor to the APNA Undergraduate Education Council Workgroup.
Articles and Presentations:
Outside the classroom, Professor Neathery contributes to both nursing publications and nursing associations. For the past 5 years, she delivered poster and podium presentations at the annual American Psychiatric Nurses Association conferences. She is published in The Journal of Christian Nursing, and has presented at other national conferences, online webinars for AACN, and is a reviewer for psychiatric textbooks. She has participated in the Harvard Nurse Health Study since 1995.
Community:
Finally, Melissa Neathery is involved in her local community. Aside from spending time with her husband and two sons, she is an active member of the PEO Sisterhood. She has served on the board of the Cambridge School of Dallas as Secretary and Development Committee Member. Having lived in Albania for five years with her family doing missions work, Melissa continues to serve foreign visitors as a host and stateside contact.
