Work and Education:
Dr. Kirby is a Clinical Associate Professor, an ANCC board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, a Certified Nurse Educator, and she is certified in LEAN Quality Improvement. She has over 20 years of clinical experience and 13+ years of teaching experience. She has working knowledge of both a private practice family medicine office as well as the inner workings of a FQHC. Dr. Kirby taught in the undergraduate program at Purdue University, West Lafayette, from 2010-2023 and joined Baylor University in the graduate program in 2023. She also works PRN for Catapult Solutions Healthcare group as a Clinical Nurse Liaison.
Committees:
Dr. Kirby has served and chaired many Nursing School and University Committees. These include the Undergraduate Curriculum, Faculty Affairs, Instructional Support, Undergraduate Faculty Search Committee, Associate Head Search Committee, Undergraduate Student Admissions, and University Community Standards Board. She also worked on the Tobacco Free Partnership of Tippecanoe County board and she led the research and initiatives to beginning a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee at the School of Nursing as well as the school-wide mentoring program for new faculty and teaching assistants.
Articles & Presentations:
Most of Dr. Kirby’s scholarship involves teaching and learning and has included evaluation of teaching modalities; quality improvement; mentorship to new nursing faculty and teaching assistants; diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, Dr. Kirby has nursing practice scholarship in: Medicare wellness visits; hospice and palliative care; ACO transitions; and assisted with DNP students on their scholarship efforts including nursing self-efficacy in critical care OB patients; and evaluating teaching methods for DEI content in NP students.

Community:
Dr. Kirby is involved in her local community. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, a daughter and son, and her dog. She serves in her local church in events like Christmas for Everyone and the Living Nativity, as well as her children’s school either teaching or volunteering for sports and events. Dr. Kirby was the faculty advisor for the Nursing Christian Fellowship and the local March of Dimes walk at Purdue University.
