Work and Education
Dr. Katy Vogelaar is a Clinical Instructor at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She teaches didactic and clinical courses for graduate students in the DNP-FNP tract. She also teaches pre-nursing majors on the Waco campus in the New Student Experience course. Dr. Vogelaar is very proud to have earned two degrees from Baylor University and considers it an honor to help prepare future nurses and nurse practitioners for practice.

Dr. Vogelaar is a Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in emergency room and urgent care medicine. She is passionate about improving health care access for underserved populations and mobilizing Christian medical providers to use their God-given gifts to serve others. Prior to teaching, Dr. Vogelaar worked as a family nurse practitioner in an urgent care clinic for the uninsured and underinsured operated by her local church, Watermark Community Church in Dallas, TX. Dr. Vogelaar served the non-profit organization as the lead advanced practice provider. Before working in the urgent care clinic, Dr. Vogelaar completed an emergency medicine internship and worked in a local emergency department. Additionally, Dr. Vogelaar has worked with a medical education company to develop and edit content for entry-to-practice bootcamps for medical providers in the emergency room and pediatric healthcare settings.

Committees
Dr. Vogelaar serves on several committees at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing including the Graduate Studies Committee and the Faculty Affairs Committee.

Articles and Presentations
In addition to teaching, Dr. Vogelaar contributes to her profession through scholarship. Her doctoral project Cover Your Cough: Implementation and Evaluation of Tuberculosis Infection Control and Screening Guidelines focused on high-risk populations for tuberculosis at a community-based clinic in Dallas, TX. Dr. Vogelaar presented her project at the National Nurse Practitioner Symposium in Keystone, CO and the Texas Nurse Practitioner Annual Conference in Austin, TX.

Dr. Vogelaar is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP), Central Texas Nurse Practitioners (CTNP), and the Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA).

Community
Dr. Vogelaar’s most significant title is “wife” to her husband Mike and “mom” to her four children, Maddie, Khloe, Kirby, and Kit. Her family are active in the Waco community. In addition to serving in their local church, Harris Creek, the Vogelaar family serves at local non-profits in Waco that minister to at-risk children and families. Dr. Vogelaar and her husband also enjoy serving in marriage ministry through their church. In addition to local community involvement, Dr. Vogelaar has participated in several international medical mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
