Work and Education:
Dr. Erica Plimpton is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She teaches didactic and clinical courses for graduate students in the doctoral nursing program.

Dr. Plimpton is a family nurse practitioner with a specialty background in caring for people living with HIV. She began her advanced practice career with the Dallas VA Medical Center in the Infectious Disease Unit caring for a caseload of nearly 500 veterans living with HIV. During her time at the VA, she helped to establish a new clinical operation workflow to ensure patient retention and maintain high-quality care during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 she moved to Denver, Colorado and transitioned to a senior community care role where Dr. Plimpton works with patients and families in assisted living and long-term care facilities to provide chronic care management and facilitate end-of-life decision making.

Committees:
Dr. Plimpton currently serves on Nursing School Committees. These include the Graduate Studies Committee, the DNP Project Committee, and the Graduate Curriculum Committee.

Articles and Presentations:
In addition to teaching and clinical work, Dr. Plimpton contributes to her profession through scholarship. Her doctoral project, A Quality Improvement Project to Increase Patient Portal Enrollment and Utilization in At-Risk Women Living with HIV focused on improving clinical outcomes for women living with HIV attending a low-income community HIV clinic in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. The project was accepted for publication in the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (JANAC), for podium presentation at the 2019 Texas DNP Conference, and for poster presentations at the 2019 North Texas Nurse Practitioners Continuing Education Conference and the 2019 national Association of Nurses in AIDS Care annual conference. Dr. Plimpton also served as a panel member at the VA’s 2021 National HIV and STD Prevention webinar giving a lecture on “Taking a Good Sexual History” and as a panel member for the “STD Prevention Guidelines” discussion.

Dr. Plimpton is an active member of the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Community:
Finally, Dr. Plimpton is a dedicated wife to her husband, Rob, and mother to her two children, Abigail and Nathan. Aside from spending time with her husband and children skiing and hiking the Rocky Mountains year-round, she is involved in her local community. Dr. Plimpton serves as a board member for her children’s parent-teacher association and is actively involved with her local church, Mile Hi.
