Work and Education:
Dr. Brandy Brown currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. Previously, she served as faculty member at state and national universities. Currently, she engages with students in both the Traditional and Distance Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (DABSN) tracks. She has taught many courses at LHSON that focus on her expertise including: Maturing Family, Population Health, Mental Health, Health Assessment, Foundations, Medical/Surgical, and NCLEX preparation. She has also mentored students in the Honors Program. She has held leadership positions as DABSN Coordinator and Associate Dean of Prelicensure Program.

Dr. Brown has had the opportunity to teach in colleges and Universities over the last 20 years. Her work experience includes faculty appointments and patient care positions. She has served as faculty member at Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah; Union University in Jackson, Tennessee; Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tennessee; and Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama. Her educational instruction with students is informed by her experiences as a registered nurse and an advanced practice nurse. As a generalist BSN prepared Registered Nurse, she has practiced in medical surgical acute and no-acute areas, surgical intensive care units, cardiac specialty units, outpatient clinics (internal medicine and gastroenterology) and community organizations. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, she has provided outpatient and nursing home medical care in north Mississippi. Currently she serves the nursing home population in the West Tennessee area in the specialty of geriatric psychiatry.

Dr. Brown received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of South Alabama, her Master of Science in Nursing at Vanderbilt University, and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing. She has been AACN Board Certified as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (GNP-BC) since 2000.

Grants:
Currently, Dr. Brown is working on a Preceptor Support Program that will impact retention of nurses in Texas. 

Angosta, A. (PI), Brown, B (2023 – 2025) Innovation to Impact: Online Education with Academic-Practice Initiative for Increasing and Retaining Nurses in Texas. Nursing Innovation Grant Program from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. ($200,000)

  • An initiative to develop a Preceptor Support Program that will impact retention of nurses across Texas. This program is focused on supporting the nurse who serves as a Preceptor with added focus in self-care of the nurse.

Committees and Organizations:
Dr. Brown has served on many committees and work groups throughout the years. The projects and committee work have focused on areas that include curriculum, student progress, educational resources, missions, geriatrics, admissions, and strategic planning.

She is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Geriatric Society, Tennessee Nurses Association and Sima Theta Tau International (STTI). She is currently the Chair of the Leadership Succession and Technology Committees of the STTI Eta Gamma Chapter.

Community and Missions:
Brandy Brown is involved in her local community. Her love of the outdoors is enhanced by the time she spends with her husband and three daughters on the family farm. She is an active member of First Baptist Church in Corinth, MS where she serves in the Girls in Action groups, music ministry, and nursing home ministry. She has co-led the Rio Grande Valley LHSON Mission trip. She engages in community events and enjoys mission opportunities to serve others.
