Work and Education:
Dr. Azotam has been a pediatric nurse since 2005 and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 2009. Her pediatric experience has centered on pediatric patients in the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department, Urgent Care, and Complex Chronically Ill patients in the primary care setting. She has been teaching in graduate nursing education since 2015, specializing in both Primary and Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner students. Dr. Azotam has taught DNP students at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing since 2022. She continues to maintain her clinical practice skills in her role as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. 

Committees:
Dr. Azotam has served in the Graduate Studies and Educational Technology Committee as well as participating in the program improvements within the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Track in the LHSON. She is a member of the BU Faculty of Color Alliance (FOCA) at the university level as well as serving as a member of her professional organizations, NAPNAP, AANP, STTI, NLN, and NONPF. 

Articles and Presentations:
Outside the classroom, Dr. Azotam contributes to nursing by participating in professional activities that promote her passion for being a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She has participated in “back to school” employee events for both Parkland and Cook’s Children’s Hospitals. In 2016, she delivered a CNE presentation called “Does Continuing Education Matter? Predictors of APRNs’ Intention to Report Child Maltreatment” to the local chapter of the Society of Pediatric Nurses in Philadelphia, PA. This presentation focused on her PhD dissertation research “State Mandated Education and the Intention of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to Report Child Maltreatment”. She has been a peer reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Healthcare and authored an article on pediatric consent using a bioethics perspective in the journal, Nursing Ethics. Moreover, she has had the opportunity be featured in media with interviews on preparing future PNPs to address substance abuse (Kognito) and appearing live on the local news during a NBC Flu Crisis Hotline giving families advice on home management of influenza and staying safe during cold/flu season.

Community:
Dr. Azotam is involved in both her local and professional community. Aside from spending time with family, she enjoys traveling and exploring different cultural experiences.
