Work and Education
Dr. Jaclyn Standring serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She teaches courses in the Doctor of Nursing Practice curriculum for BU’s graduate nursing programs. She holds active national credentials as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC), and CCRN. Dr. Standring completed her undergraduate nursing education while also competing as a collegiate soccer and track & field athlete. As an RN, Dr. Standring cared for critically complex patients in the Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Neuro ICU, CVICU, and Cardiac Cath/EP labs. While in graduate school, Dr. Standring served as a clinical research coordinator for the department of Infectious Diseases and the Global Health Initiative. During that time, she conducted and contributed to over 20 studies and clinical trials. Dr. Standring’s work as a researcher has been published and presented globally. In 2014, she obtained her graduate certificate in nursing education. In 2015, she graduated with her MSN as a board-certified Acute Care nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner in the department of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Dr. Standring spearheaded the development and early utilization of new telemedicine practices and platforms. She has since served in several telemedicine positions, across various subspecialties.

Dr. Standring earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University. Her doctoral research focused on antibiotic stewardship and provider/patient education. Upon graduation, she began her full-time career in academics, while continuing to maintain her clinical practice. Dr. Standring is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners, National League of Nurses, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, Kappa Gamma Pi, and Sigma Theta Tau.

Committees
Dr. Standring has served on various professional committees as both a practitioner, and educator. She currently serves as a member of Graduate Studies Committee for the Louise Herrington School of Nursing.

Research and Presentations
Dr. Standring has a very broad background in nursing with a focus in acute and critical care, infectious disease and global health medicine. As a nurse researcher in Detroit, she worked on highly impactful studies related to antibiotic therapies, resistant microorganisms, and groundbreaking clinical trials. Currently, Dr. Standring is a member of multidisciplinary research team exploring the impacts and implications of COVID-19 in Detroit, MI. Her previous research included projects related to timing of tracheostomy placement in long term intubations and antibiotic stewardship in outpatient care settings. Dr. Standring’s research contributions have been presented at the local, state, national and international levels.

Community
Dr. Standing is an active member of her church community. She is directly involved in several charitable and fundraising campaigns both locally and globally. She is also a very active supporter of her Italian American heritage. Dr. Standring is a strong advocate of global health initiatives and missions and is very passionate about advancing the field of nursing worldwide.
