Work and Education:
Dr. Camune has more than 48 years in nursing, higher education and healthcare leadership. She worked as Clinical Professor of Nursing before she retired with Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) and now serves as a part-time Lecturer. Previously, she served as Associate Clinical Professor and Coordinator of Nurse-Midwifery’s Health and Practitioner Program at the University of Illinois, College of Nursing. Her professional career includes working on HRSA grants for forensic nursing and a DNP program as well as many years working in nurse leadership roles in healthcare systems in Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Committees:
Over the years, Dr. Camune has served on numerous professional committees for organizations and schools such as: Texas Board of Nursing APRN Advisory Committee; the American College of Nurse-Midwives; University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing; UIC Maternal Child Nursing Department; University of Texas Medical Branch and the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston. She also has memberships in scientific societies such as: Illinois Society of Advanced Practice Nurses; Texas Nurse Practitioners; Sigma Theta Tau International; American College of Nurse Midwives; local ACNM chapters; NAACOG/AWHONN; Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health; National League for Nursing and many others.

Articles and Presentations:
Outside the classroom, Dr. Camune contributes to both nursing publications and nursing associations. She has published and presented nationally on subjects related to women’s healthcare.

Awards and Honors:
Notably Dr. Camune has received many distinguished professional awards and recognitions throughout her career. Highlighting some of her milestone moments include: Fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives; 2019 DFW Great 100 Nurses; University of Texas at Galveston School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni; ACNM Foundation Teaching Excellence Award; Sigma Theta Tau, International Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice and many more.
